Ateneo de Manila University looks to formalize its entry to the Final Four against Far Eastern University.
Ateneo de Manila University sets its eyes to formally enter the semifinals on Wednesday when the Lady Eagles take on a team they had dominated in the past three years to close the 13th V-League Collegiate Conference quarterfinals at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
The Lady Eagles face the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws at 6:00 p.m. with Ateneo looking to avoid a playoff for the last best-of-three Final Four seat against the loser of the first game at 4:00 p.m. between San Sebastian College and University of the Philippines.
The defending champion National University and the Lady Tamaraws are already assured of a seat in the next round.
The game will air live over Sports & Action Channel 23, Sports & Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream on sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/vleague.
Ateneo is on a three-way logjam at 2-2 win-loss record with SSC-R and UP. A win by the Lady Eagles will formally complete the semifinals roster.
Ana Gopico and Kim Gequillana scored 13 points each in Ateneo’s 25-22, 25-19, 25-19, win over University of Sto. Tomas two days ago. Aside from the two, the Lady Eagles will also bank on Bea De Leon, skipper Michelle Morente and setter Jia Morado.
FEU, which holds a 3-1 slate, after dropping its opening assignment in the quarterfinals against NU, vented its ire on SSC-R, 27-25, 25-20, 25-11, last Saturday.
The Lady Tams, which lost all of its head-to-head matches against Ateneo in the past three UAAP seasons and dropped last year's quarterfinals game against the Lady Eagles, will bank on the trio of Bernadeth Pons, Remy Palma and Toni Rose Basas with support coming from Jerrili Malabanan, Heather Guino-o and setter Kyle Negrito.
