Foton Pilipinas dedicated their opening day win for the people of Davao.
BIÑAN CITY --- Foton Pilipinas dedicated their straight sets win against Kwai Tsing-Hong Kong in the 2016 AVC Asian Women's Club Championship to the victims of the recent bombings in Davao City.
"I wanted to dedicate this win to the people of Davao in this very trying time," said Tornadoes coach Fabio Menta after the host squad swept the young Hong Kong side, 25-20, 25-14, 25-10, in Pool A at the Alonte Sports Arena here.
A bomb exploded in a night market in the city Friday, killing 14 people and at least 67 people wounded in a terrorist attack claimed by Abu Sayyaf extremists.
Veteran hitter Abigail Maraño in a Twitter post after the game showed her support to the Davaoeños.
Marano scored eight markers for Foton Pilipinas. Six-foot-5 Jaja Santiago led all scorers with 12 points including seven hits and four kill blocks while Jovelyn Gonzaga had 11.
The Tornadoes will march in the quarterfinals with another win on Sunday against Lien Viet Post Bank of Vietnam. Game time is set at 2:00 p.m.
