Lady Eagles soar to semis after eliminating San Sebastian
Ana Gopico and the Lady Eagles punched their ticket to the V-League Collegiate Conference Final Four after an impressive win over San Sebastian.

In their first major tournament minus Alyssa Valdez, the Lady Eagles have looked generally fine.

In a suddent death playoff, Ateneo caught the final bus to the semifinals of the 13th V-League Collegiate Conference after beating San Sebastian in a surprisingly quick three-set affair, 25-22, 25-23, 25-17, Saturday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.

The Lady Eagles looked cool, calm, and collected as they eliminated the Lady Stags, setting up a Final Four matchup against the top-seeded Far Eastern University.

After close encounters in the first two sets, Ateneo pulled away in the decisive third with Jia Morado running the Lady Eagle offense to perfection.

Ateneo maintained a seven-point bubble in the third before settling for a 25-17 win to complete the sweep.

Back-to-back quick hits from Bea De Leon put the Lady Eagles on match points, 24-17, while Ana Gopico took care of the winning hit via a down-the-line spike.

Gopico led Ateneo with a team-high 15 points on 11 attacks and four aces while Kim Gequillana added 12.

Morado also made her presence felt with 50 excellent sets.

"I'm proud kasi yung pinaghirapan namin sa training gumana tsaka nag-work as a team kami," skipper Michelle Morente said.

"Lumabas ulit yung confidence namin and sobrang happy ako for the team," she added.

Gretchel Soltones led the Lady Stags with 17 points.

Game 1 of the best-of-three series between the Lady Eagles and the Lady Tamaraws start on Monday also at the PhilSports Arena.

Defending champion National University takes on University of the Philippines in the other Final Four matchup.
