MAY THE BEST TEAM WIN -- Ateneo skipper Michelle Morente and San Sebastian College team captain Grethcel Soltones will try to tow their respective team to the semifinals.
Ateneo de Manila University and San Sebastian College dispute the last Final Four ticket on Saturday in a playoff that is expected to go down to the wire in the 13th V-League Collegiate Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
The winner of the scheduled 6:00 p.m. match will advance in the next round for the right to face top seed Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws in the best-of-three semifinals.
The match will air live over Sports & Action Channel 23, Sports & Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream.
Defending champion National University and University of the Philippines pair in the other semis series starting Monday.
Both the Lady Eagles and the Lady Stags closed the quarterfinals with 2-2 carryover win-loss record after dropping their respective last game in the round last Wednesday.
Ateneo absorbed an 18-25, 19-25, 22-25, loss at the hands of FEU, giving SSC-R a chance to try its luck in a do-or-die match after yielding a 17-25, 25-23, 5-25, 18-25, decision to UP.
The game will also serve as a rematch of the two squads preliminary round playoff where the Lady Stags dominated the Lady Eagles, 25-23, 25-22, 25-23, last August 6 made memorable by SSC-R’s return from a 10-23 deficit in the third frame to steal the victory.
Open Conference Most Valuable Player and this tournament’s statistical leader Grethcel Soltones will once again lead the Lady Stags’ drive together with Nikka Dalisay, Joyce Sta. Maria and Denice Lim.
This is Ateneo’s second playoff in the tournament after squeezing past Technological Institute of the Philippines for a quarterfinals ticket.
Michelle Morente, Bea De Leon, Kim Gequillana, Ana Gopico and Jia Morado are the Lady Eagles’ hope to avoid an early exit.
