Alyssa Valdez dropped 18 points in leading new team Bureau of Customs past University of the Philippines.
Alyssa Valdez churned out her usual numbers to mark her first game with new team Bureau of Customs.
The former Ateneo de Manila star blasted 14 kills in her total of 18 points as the Transformers swept University of the Philippines, 25-23, 25-18, 25-22, Monday night in the 13th V-League Reinforced Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
BoC tied Laoag at second spot with 1-0 win-loss record behind league-leading University of Sto. Tomas (2-0).
Despite playing with new teammates, Valdez, who transferred to BoC after seeing action in the Open Conference with BaliPure, showcased her trademark power and intensity that helped Ateneo win back-to-back titles in the UAAP in Seasons 76 and 77 and four V-League crowns for the Lady Eagles and PLDT Home Ultera.
Rosemarie Vargas pounded 15 hits in her total of 17 points while veterans Lilet Mabayyad and Pau Soriano added 10 and eight points to help the former three-time UAAP Most Valuable Player.
BoC’s Thai imports setter Natthanicha Jaisaen and Kanjana Kuthaisong rode the bench the whole game because of technicalities with their playing documents.
“Kasi siyempre veterans na rin ang naiwan sa bench namin so kahit hindi nakalaro ang mga imports namin, nag-step up naman sila,” said Transformers coach Sherwin Meneses.
Nicole Tiamzon was the lone Lady Maroons player in double-figures with 15 points with all but one coming of kills.
Marian Buitre and Justine Dorog scored five each for UP, which tied Philippine Air Force with 0-1 record.
