Pocari Sweat begins its quest for a second straight crown.
Pocari Sweat and Philippine Air Force rekindle their rivalry when the two collide on Wednesday in the 13th V-League Reinforced Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
The Open Conference champion Lady Warriors begin their quest for a second straight title in the 4:00 p.m. match against the Lady Jet Spikers, who are reeling from an opening day setback five days ago.
The match will air live via livestream on sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/vleague and will be shown on a delayed basis on S+A channel 23 and S+A HD channel 166.
Pocari Sweat, which defeated Air Force in three games in the Open Conference Finals series two months ago, will parade two American imports in Bre Mackie and Andrea Kacsits to beef up its roster composed of an almost intact core.
Kacsits is a 6-foort-4 middle blocker from Ohio State while 6-foot-3 Mackie is an open hitter who played in Long Beach State and in Switzerland for VCB Cheseaux.
Filipino-American setter Iris Tolenada, a former California Collegiate Athletic Association MVP from San Francisco State, returns to the team after skipping the Open Conference to fulfill her commitment as part of a high school team coaching staff in California.
Open Conference Finals MVP Myla Pablo, Michele Gumabao, Elaine Kasilag, Melissa Gohing and setter Gyzelle Sy are also back to lead the Lady Warriors. Siemens Dadang will not suit up in the team’s debut because of pneumonia.
The Lady Jet Spikers, on the other hand, are looking to bounce back from a 15-25, 25-20, 13-25, 21-25, loss at the hands of University of Sto. Toimas last Saturday.
Iari Yongco, who scored 11 points last game, will need to get a lot more support from veterans Joy Cases and May Ann Pantino to carry Air Force. Six-foot-three Dell Palomata is expected to step up this time after scoring only four point the last time out.
Veteran Judy Ann Caballejo is also expected to join the team after skipping last game for a prior commitment.
Meanwhile, in the lone 2nd Spikers’ Turf Reinforced Conference, Philippine Army takes on 100 Plus at 12:30 p.m.
