Grethcel Soltones of Laoag attacks the defense of Philippine Air Force.
Laoag bucked a slow start to complete a come-from-behind 20-25, 26-24, 25-21, 26-24 win over veteran Philippine Air Force Wednesday night in the 13th V-League Reinforced Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Open Conference Most Valuable Player Grethcel Soltones, Jema Galanza and Aiko Urdas led the way for the Power Smashers, who improved to 2-1 win-loss record and rebounded from a painful five-set loss over Bureau of Customs a week ago.
Soltones smashed 12 kills in her total of 13 points, Wenneth Eulalio had 10 markers while Urdas and setter Chie Saet, which dished out 31 excellent sets, contributed with nine each. Galanza chipped in seven points while Jorelle Singh saw limited action to finish with six.
Air Force tried to force a decider by coming back from an 18-21 deficit and saving a match point to tie the frame a 24.
Eulalio put Laoag back on top on a kill before Soltones sealed the win with a through the block finisher.
"Ini-explain ko nga sa kanila na pagdating sa end game lalo na kung fifth set doon tayo medyo agrabyado kasi ang pag-uusapan natin d'yan ay experience na kaya pilitin nating talunin (kaagad)," said Laoag coach Nes Pamilar.
The Lady Jet Spikers dropped its second loss in three games tied with University of the Philippines.
Jocemer Tapic had 18 markers including 14 off spikes while Joy Cases got 10 for the Power Smashers. Dell Palomata had three kill blocks in her total of 10 points.
