'Yung attitude pa rin namin na biglang bumibigay nandoon pa rin -- Diana Carlos
Weary University of the Philippines is feeling the wear and tear of playing in all of the three conferences of the 13th V-League.
The Lady Maroons are looking to use their participation as part of their buildup for the 79th UAAP tournament.
But while the intention is for UP to gain exposure and valuable experience, the stiff competition and hard battles are taking its toll on some players.
“Siguro at some point mayroong ganoon (napapagod),” said UP’s Diana Carlos, who scored nine points in the Lady Maroons’ 13-25, 23-25, 17-25 loss to BaliPure in the Reinforced Conference Saturday night at the PhilSports Arena.
“Pero kailangan naming maglaro eh,” she added. “So bigay lang namin ang best namin.”
The loss was UP’s fourth in six games putting the team in danger of missing the cut for a spot in the semifinals.
Despite being a collegiate team and playing without an import against a veteran-laden and American-reinforced BaliPure, the Lady Maroons gave the Water Defenders some scary moment especially in the second set and up until midway of the third frame before losing steam in the end.
“Ganoon pa rin eh. Yung attitude pa rin namin na biglang bumibigay nandoon pa rin,” said Carlos. “Talagang kailangan namin ng maturity.”
“Sarili namin ang kalaban namin. Hindi ko alam kung anong nararamdaman nila kung bakit ayaw nila (na lumaban). So parang bumababa kaagad ang morale naming,” the sophomore added.
The Diliman-based squad will close the eliminations on Monday against Philippine Air Force.
