Bureau of Customs builds momentum heading into the semifinals.
Semifinals-bound Bureau of Customs survived a tough challenge mounted by also-ran Philippine Air Force for a 23-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-21 come-from-behind win Saturday to end their 13th V-League Reinforced Conference elimination round campaign at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Behind conference leading scorer Alyssa Valdez and Thai import Kanjana Kuthaisong, the Transformers clawed its way out of an early match deficit to pocket their fifth win in seven games and second straight.
BoC will wait for the result of the Nov. 2 match between Pocari Sweat (5-1) and University of Sto. Tomas (5-1) and BaliPure (4-2) against eliminated Philippine Coast guard to determine which team the squad will take on in the best-of-three Final Four.
Kuthaisong scored 21 points on 18 kills, two kill blocks and an ace while Valdez had 15 markers with all but one coming off attacks for BoC. Lilet Mabbayad added 11 points and Rose Mari Vargas tallied nine.
"Hindi maganda ang start namin pero buti na lang naka-recover kami ng second hanggang fourth set," said BoC ccoach Sherwin Meneses.
With the match tied one set apiece, BoC turned the tides in their favor after a huge rally to end the third. Down 20-23 the Transformers dropped a finishing 5-0 scoring spurt to steal the frame for a 2-1 match lead.
The Lady Jet Spikers kept its pressure on BoC in the fourth, tying the set at 11 before the Transformers took a 20-15 lead. Air Force tried a last-ditched effort to close the gap, 24-21, but Kuthaisong put the game away with a kill.
Air Force, the Open Conference runner up, finished its campaign at sixth to seventh spot with a 2-5 slate tied with Laoag.
May Ann Pantino and Joy Cases scored 12 points each while Judy Ann Caballejo and Dell Palomata had 10 apiece for the Lady Jet Spikers.
