We played as a team -- Alyssa Valdez on BoC's win
Ayaw lang talaga siguro naming matapos ang series ngayong araw na ito -- Alyssa Valdez

Bureau of Customs is not ready to wave the white flag yet.

The Transformers showed a lot of moxie to spoil BaliPure’s attempt to advance in Finals of the 13th V-League Reinforced Conference Monday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Superstar Alyssa Valdez and the rest of her crew forced a rubber match on Wednesday, tying their best-of-three semifinals series to 1-1 after a 25-19, 15-25, 25-20, 25-17, victory in Game 2.

“I think it’s mental toughness. Ayaw lang talaga siguro naming matapos ang series ngayong araw na ito,” said Valdez, who exploded for 27 points with 20 coming off kills for her first win against her former team.

BoC lost its first two showdowns with BaliPure in straight sets including the series opener last Saturday.

“First win (over BaliPure),” said Valdez, who led the Water Defenders to a bronze medal finish in the Open Conference before transferring to BoC. “This is really a big win siguro for the team kasi semifinals and we’re extending the series sa Game 3 so definitely a big win.”

Valdez had plenty of help from her teammates with Thai import Kanjana Kuthaisong scoring 19 points in an opposite hitter role while Rose Marie Vargas had seven points with 13 digs and 13 perfect receptions.

“But more than that we’re really happy na lalo na ‘yung buong team kasi today talaga we really played as one team,” Valdez said. “We really enjoyed the game and lahat kami sumisigaw talaga point man o hindi man point talagang ipinaglalaban talaga. I think that’s the character that we really have to bring going into the third game.”

Game 3 is on Wednesday.

The winner of the sudden death will face the Open Conference champion Pocari Sweat in the best-of-three championship series starting Saturday.

BoC head coach Sherwin Meneses tweaked his rotation putting Kuthaisong at opposite and it did wonders as it unclogged the front of the net to loosen the defense.

“Nag-adjust din si coach ng rotation so medyo lumuwag din talaga ang blocking kasi may threat din talaga kay Som sa kabilang side,” Valdez said. “Ayun siguro its really the teamwork din talaga and I think the Thais din talaga really badly wanted to win this game. ‘Yun nag-usap-usap lang din kaming lahat.”

“I think with the help naman of my teammates talaga. You can’t do naman talaga everything alone. Sina coach din talaga nag-adjust, yung buong team nag-adjust. We really talked a lot today,” she added.
