V-League to add All-Star Game in its annual calendar

After the successful staging of the V-League and Spikers’ Turf All-Star Game, league organizer Sports Vision Management Group, Inc. is looking to add the event as part of its annual calendar.

“What was originally conceived to be fun games and an advocacy of giving back to the community, Moying Martelino, Chairman of SVMGI said that the All Star games is envisioned to be an annual event as part of its annual calendar,” according to the statement given to ABS-CBN Sports by Sports Vision Tuesday.

The league held the All-Star Game both in the Spikers’ Turf and V-League a month ago after the season-ending Reinforced Conference to raise fund for the benefit of the victims of Typhoon Lawin.

League president Ricky Palou handed over the donation check amounting to P200,000 Monday to ABS-CBN Foundation through ABS-CBN S+A Channel head Vince Rodriguez.

The 2016 All Star Games was a joint effort of the seven SVMGI partners in Shakey's, Mikasa, Accel, Balipure, Pocari Sweat, Philippine Sports Commission and ABS CBN S+A as well as with the 48 players, 12 coaches and the entire Sports Vision organization. 

It was a day of fun, laughter and games for a cause.

Fans poured in their support to watch 48 of best players each in the men’s and women’s division showcase their talents for the last time in an event that served as an encore for the 13th year of the league. The players were chosen based on their accumulated stats per position during the Open, Collegiate and Reinforced Conferences.

The Michele Gumabao and Chery Rondina-led Team Palaban defeated the Alyssa Valdez-led Team Puso, 25-21, 19-25, 25-15, 25-22, in the V-League All-Star Game while in the Spikers’ Turf event, the Marck Espejo-led Team Galaw outworked Team Hataw, 25-21, 25-23, 18-25, 25-20.
