Carmela Tunay returns to volleyball action as the former University of Sto. Tomas star joins Petron.
Former University of Sto. Tomas star Carmela Tunay formally inked a deal with Petron Wednesday as the Tri-Activ Spikers build up their roster for the next season of the Philippine Superliga.
Removed from the court for months since her last stint with Cignal in the 2016 All-Filipino Conference, Tunay is set to return in the 2017 Invitational Conference that opens on February together with other prized recruits Petron has acquired to regain its lost glory.
Tunay, who works as a host and a volleyball analyst in ABS-CBN, signed her contract with San Miguel Corp. (SMC) sports director Alfrancis Chua.
The Virtual Playground talent because of her ties and commitment with the Kapamilya network will only play during the Invitational Conference.
Tunay said that though her ultimate dream is to become a successful TV host, which she is slowly making into reality, he love for volleyball remains in her veins.
“Passion ko siyempre ang volleyball at ito ang first love ko,” said the 21-year-old hitter.
Virtual Playground chief Charlie Dy in his Instagram account posted the photo of the contract signing.
Tunay will get to share the same side of the court with other former UST players Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and setter Rhea Dimaculangan and with top recruit Mika Reyes.
Petron also tapped Tigresses Cherry Rondina and Ria Meneses but the two are unavailable in the Invitational Conference because of their commitment with UST in the UAAP.
