The composition of the 24-man national volleyball team pool will be known Tuesday.
Who will make the cut?
The Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc. will announce the composition of the men’s and women’s Philippine national team pool on Tuesday with some of the biggest names expected to be included in the list.
LVPI officials Joey Romasanta and Peter Cayco will be accompanied by coaches Sammy Acaylar of the men’s squad and Francis Vicente of the women’s team when they make the announcement in the Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum at the Golden Phoenix Hotel along Diosdado Macapagal Ave. Sunrise Drive in Pasay City.
The sports association conducted three tryouts in Manila, Cebu and Davao in search of talents that will represent the country in the 29th Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from August 19 to 31.
Each pool will consist of 24 players.
Women’s volleyball superstar Alyssa Valdez was one of aspirants that joined the tryouts, showing up in the Davao leg last February 25.
Valdez, who is currently in Thailand playing for club team 3BB Nakornnont in the Thai League, was a member of the national squad that saw action in the 28th Singapore SEA Games two years ago.
In the Manila leg, 37 players attended the tryouts spearheaded by other former national team members libero Denden Lazaro, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Rachel Anne Daquis, Aby Marano and Santiago sisters Jaja and Dindin.
Aside from the SEA Games, the women’s squad will also participate in the Asian U-23 in Thailand from May 13 to 21 and in the Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship in Manila on August 9 to 17.
