Cherry Bomb detonates in Ilocos for BVR on Tour

Currimao, Ilocos Norte --- The Beach Volleyball Republic finally saw just how explosive the Cherry Bomb can be.
UST star Cherry Rondina, finally on tour with BVR this year, partnered with Cecilia Bangad to earn a top seed for Leg 6 at the Playa Tropical Resort here Saturday.
Rondina and Bangad swept through bracket A of the women's collegiate division, winning three games with relative ease.
The UST pair started their day off taking care of the Viray twins from San Beda, scoring a 21-12, 21-13 win before taking another two-set decision against the local team from MMSU.
Up against UAAP rival Mich Morente and her partner Ria Lo, Rondia and Bangad made it three in a row, posting an impressive 21-12, 24-22 victory.
The Viray twins earned the no. 2 spot in bracket A while the Morente-Lo tandem placed third. MMSU settled for fourth.
BVR regulars Floremel Rodriguez and Theres Ramas topped bracket B of the women's collegiate division while the other Ateneo team, Gizelle Tan and Ana Gopico were a close second.
University of Baguio's Mary Ann Atuban and Carmela Dicksen (3rd) and RTU's Mary Jane Ruiz and Myla Lim (4th) complete the rankings.
In men's collegiate play, two-time leg champions Jeremiah Barrica and Kevin Hadlocon ruled bracket B while Malaysia's Mohd Aizzzat Zokri and Raja Nazmi took care of bracket A.
Another pair of foreign players secured a top spot from preliminary play as Hong Kong's Giovanni Musillo and Brian Nordberg placed first in bracket A of the Men's Open division. Jade Becaldo and Rommel Pepito emerged as the no. 1 team in bracket B.
Champions of the BVR Currimao leg will win P50,000 in cash while second placers take home P30,000. Third placers will win P10,000 each.
