Kazakhs finish off Hong Kong, tow PHI to quarterfinals

BINAN CITY, Laguna --- Kazakhstan closed the quarterfinals race in Pool A after an empathic, 25-16, 25-17, 25-11, win over Hong Kong Thursday in the 19th SMM Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship at the Alonte Sports Arena here.
The 63-minute victory of the Kazakhs also towed the Philippines to a spot in the top eight.
Kazkahstan and the host teams will meet Friday 5:30 p.m. The match will air on a delayed basis at 6:30 p.m. on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23 and ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166.
Katerina Tatko saw action in just two sets but still came up with game-high 14 points anchored on 11 attacks and three service aces for Kazakhstan.
Yana Petrenko and Yekatarina Zhdanova finished with 12 and 11, respectively, for Kazakhstan.
Hong Kong closed the first round with two straight losses after suffering a 21-25, 16-25, 17-15, defeat against PHI Wednesday.
Wing Yan Fung scored eight while Sau Mei Yeung got seven for Hong Kong, which was relegated to the classification round for ninth to 14th place.
