Will Jaja Santiago accept Bangkok Glass' offer to play in the Thai League?
National University star Jaja Santiago could be heading to a stint in the Thailand Volleyball League, following the footsteps of Alyssa Valdez.
Top club team Bangkok Glass offered the 6-foot-5 versatile hitter a lucrative deal as an import, where she will be playing alongside Thailand stars team captain Pleumjit Thinkaow, Pornpun Guedpard and Sutadta Chuewulim.
Somchai Donpraiyod of the Thailand Volleyball Association sent an e-mail to Philippine Superliga (PSL) president Ramon Suzara Thursday afternoon, inquiring about the availability of Santiago to play for Bangkok Glass, which is looking to reclaim the title it lost to Supreme Chonburi.
Ashley Frazier and Jordanne Scott of the United States, and Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa of Vietnam were Bangkok Glass’ imports last season.
The team is offering Santiago a six-month contract worth $4000 per month and an apartment for the duration of her stint.
“The offer is USD 4,000 per month (for a) six-month contract (with) apartment. If she agrees, they would want her to travel (here) ASAP,” according to the email.
“The problem is they have to apply O-2 (final lineup) by Saturday morning. So whether it’s a yes or a no, can she give us the answer by Saturday?”
Santiago is yet to give an answer considering that the Thai League runs from the end of October to late May which collides with the UAAP volleyball season where she will play her final year.
If Santiago accepts the offer, she will become the second Pinay player to see action in the Thai League after Valdez donned the 3BB Nakornnont jersey last season.
Valdez is currently in Taiwan to suit up for Attack Line.
