Philippine Superliga ambassadress Aby Marano considers the honor to represent the league as a chance to empower women to join, excel and be successful in sports.
The F2 Logistics star and member of the national team was introduced Wednesday as the new face of PSL, which will open its season-ending Grand Prix on Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
“Iba din 'yung feeling na magiging ambassador ka, you're also serving as a role model to all the little girls na want to be athletes also,” said Marano, known for her beast mode don’t care attitude. “Sa tingin ko, it's a big step for me na mapalawak 'yung vision ko na maka-inspire pa na maka-engganyo pa ng mga babae na sumabak sa sports.”
Marano joins the elite club of former league ambassadors Mika Reyes of Petron, Cha Cruz of F2 Logistics, Cignal’s Rachel Anne Daquis and former Ateneo de Manila star and current Kapamilya host Gretchen Ho and Richard Gomez.
The former two-time UAAP Most Valuable Player is the third straight De La Salle University product to receive the distinction.
“Mas nakaka-proud na 'yung thread nasa amin, nasa La Salle,” said Marano. “So, ibigi sabihin, nagiging factor din siya na sana maging proud 'yung La Salle community sa amin.”
“We're no longer playing for La Salle, but we're continuing the La Sallian spirit,” she added.
Known for her passion for the game and strong personality inside and outside of the court, Marano wants to be a role model to aspiring athletes.
“Siguro it’s another step for me to influence the youth and aspiring athletes na to play at their best,” said Marano. “Kasi with the way I play, I want to be infectious to them. I want to serve as a model to them.”
“Sa volleyball madaming fans, madami ring detractors,” she added. “So parang gusto kong mapakita sa kanila na ang pagiging strong mo, na kakayanin mo.”
