Generika-Ayala import Darlene Ramdin sizzled in the closing stretch of the fifth set as the Lifesavers survived a marathon 25-11, 23-25, 16-25, 25-13, 15-9, duel against Cocolife Tuesday night in the 2017 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The reinforcement from Trinidad and Tobago scored the last three points of Generika-Ayala’s closing 7-1 blitz that broke an 8-8 deadlock. The Lifesavers barged in the win column after a straight sets defeat to Petron in their conference opener last Saturday.
Ramdin finished with 25 points off 23 attacks including the match-clinching smash that broke the two-man block of the Asset Managers and two kill blocks for Generika-Ayala, which will take on another tough challenge on Thursday against Cignal HD.
“Sinabi ko lang sa setter na bigay na lang kay Ramdin para porsyento na,” said Lifesavers coach Francis Vicente.
Croat hitter Katarina Pilepic also dropped 25 markers, all from attacks, while adding five digs while local star Chlodia Cortez chipped in nine markers for Generika-Ayala.
The Lifesavers rode the crest of their huge fourth set win and engaged Cocolife to a nip and tuck battle until midway into the decider before Ramdin and Pilepic took over for the closing run.
American Asset Manager import Taylor Milton scored 18 points while reinforcement Shar Latai Manu-Olevao of US had 15 markers. Joanne Bunag added 11 while skipper Michelle Gumabao scored eight.
