Defending champion Foton shook off a rusty start and banked on the trio of reinforcements Sara Klisura, Dragana Perunicic and local star Jaja Santiago to crush Cocolife, 20-25, 25-17, 28-26, 25-18, Saturday in the 2017 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Tornadoes regrouped just in time to capture their second win in as many outings and keep the Asset Managers out of the win column.
Klisura was on fire as the Serbian import scattered 22 points off a 17 kills and five kill blocks while Santiago unleashed 16 attacks in her 21-point performance for the three-peat-seeking Foton.
Montenegrin Perunicic got 14 markers while Maika Ortiz and CJ Rosario combined for 10 points for the Tornadoes.
“After the first match, all people started saying that maybe Foton is a very strong team,” said Foton’s Serbian coach Moro Branislav.
But the mentor was not impressed with the way they took the win and at the performance of some of his players.
“It’s good that we won 3-1 but you saw that three players didn’t play the same level during our first match,” he said.
Cocolife dropped its second straight match.
American imports Shar Latai Manu-Olevao and Taylor Milton had 16 and 15 points, respectively, for the Asset Managers while skipper Michel Gumabao posted 11 markers.
