Gonzaga escapes major knee injury
Jovelyn Gonzaga of Cignal will be sidelined for at least two weeks due to a strained muscle in her right knee.

Cignal breathed a sigh of relief after ace hitter Jovelyn Gonzaga escaped any major injury after hurting her right knee in the second set of the HD Spikers’ straight sets loss to F2 Logistics in the 2017 Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga Grand Prix Tuesday.

Head coach George Pascua said that test results showed that there was no fracture in Gonzaga’s knee but sustained a muscle strain. The opposite spiker will be out of commission for at least two weeks.

“She is OK no surgery (needed). Rest lang ng one to weeks for recovery,” according to Pascua.

Gonzaga’s knee buckled following an attack in the second set with Cignal down, 13-21. She went down crying in pain and was stretchered off the court. The national team mainstay was rushed to Cardinal Santos Medical Center.
