7:00 p.m. –-- F2 Logistics vs Petron
Petron pulled off a shocker Tuesday to draw first blood in the best-of-three 2017 Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix Finals, sweeping top seed F2 Logistics, 25-14, 25-21, 25-16, at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
American imports Lindsay Stalzer and Hillary Hurley were unstoppable and got enough support from the Blaze Spikers locals to easily brush off the surprised Cargo Movers.
Game 2 of the series is on Thursday.
Petron, looking to score another title after winning the All-Filipino Conference against the same rivals and first Grand Prix crown since winning it all back in 2014, pounced on the sluggish F2 Logistics and dictated the tempo with Stalzer and Hurley leading the way.
"I couldn't be happier with the result tonight. It was a team effort, everybody was at the top of their game," said Stalzer, who scored 20 points coming off 15 attacks, three kill blocks and a pair of aces.
Hurley chipped in 20 points anchored on 16 spikes while Remy Palma, Ces Molina and Mika Reyes combined for 17 makers for the Blaze Spikers. Rhea Dimaculangan tallied 25 excellent sets for Petron, which committed only nine errors in the 91-minute duel.
The Blaze Spikers dominated the first two sets and kept their control of the match as they opened a 19-12 gap in the third frame. Petron widened the gap, 23-15, before Remy Palma scored on a running kill to put the Blaze Spikers at match point, 24-16.
Reyes sealed the victory with a quick kill.
Venezuelan imporyt Maria Jose Perez finished with 15 points but was the only Cargo Mover to score in double figures with American Kennedy Bryan posting only eight points.
Top libero Dawn Macandili had a bad night as she got only five digs as Petron peppered F2 Logistics with 42 attack points and nine service aces.
