Petron learns tough lesson in Game 2 loss
Lesson learned sa amin na talagang kung mag-start kami nang maganda, tapusin namin hanggang dulo -- Petron head coach Shaq Delos Santos

4:00 p.m. –-- F2 Logistics vs Petron

Petron learned the hard way that premature celebration could lead to a disastrous ending.

The Blaze Spikers seemed to have the 2017 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix title in the bag when they made F2 Logistics stare at a 9-0 deficit in the fourth set and with Petron ahead in their Finals Game 2 match, 2-1, Thursday.

But the momentum quickly shifted to the Cargo Movers’ side as the determined F2 Logistics made a furious rally and stole the set.

Stunned with the change of tides, Petron had no answer to the rampaging Cargo Movers in the fifth set and were left licking their wounds as the series heads into a deciding Game 3 on Saturday at the MOA Arena.

“Siguro naging part din na nag-relax kami,” said Petron coach Shaq delos Santos after his team absorbed a 20-25, 26-24, 25-14, 19-25, 4-15, shocker in their rematch after easily demolishing F2 Logistics in straight sets in the series opener Tuesday.

“’Yun lang ganun talaga, kailangan naming i-accept and maging strong pa (sa Game 3),” he added.

The Blaze Spikers surrendered the opening set before controlling the match behind their American imports Lindsay Stalzer and Hillary Hurley.

Petron enjoyed a nine-point lead to start the fourth but the Blaze Spikers got complacent and F2 Logistics took advantage.

“May part na ganun (nag-relax), kasi kahit naman sino ‘yung nasa sitwasyon na ganun kasi talagang mafe-feel na kailangan mo i-enjoy eh,” Delos Santos admitted. “Pero ‘yun lang, lesson learned sa amin na talagang kung mag-start kami nang maganda, tapusin namin hanggang dulo.”

Game 3 starts at 4:00 p.m.

The earlier announced exhibition match between Ateneo de Manila University and University of Sto. Tomas set at 1:00 p.m. will not push through.

In a statement by PSL chairman Philip Juico, the agreed match was cancelled after "a late announcement by Ateneo de Manila University officials caused the cancellation of the match they have earlier agreed to play."
