It’s really one of our dreams as an athlete to really represent the country and sabi ko nga every year kahit napuputul-putol tayo eh babalik at babalik tayo kasi para sa bayan -- Alyssa Valdez

Creamline star Alyssa Valdez apologized for being late in the star-studded national women’s volleyball team tryout Friday at the Arellano University Gym in Legarda.

Valdez and teammate Jia Morado were the last to check in in the tryout called by Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc. and facilitated by head coach Ramil de Jesus. They came in an hour late of the 5:00 p.m. call time.

“We came from a different commitment, we finished naman early but it’s really super traffic going here,” said Valdez. “We hope for the next trainings we can commit our time to come in on time ‘cause it’s really a sign of discipline.”

Valdez and Morado were among the 18 of the 34 players invited that were able to attend the tryout for the country’s build up for the 18t Asian Games in August and the AVC Asia Cup in September.

The former Ateneo de Manila Queen Eagle is looking to make another tour of duty after donning the tricolors in four separate occasions.

“It’s really one of our dreams as an athlete to really represent the country and sabi ko nga every year kahit napuputul-putol tayo eh babalik at babalik tayo kasi para sa bayan,” said the 24-year-old open spiker.

“So hopefully this year na magtuluy-tuloy na maging united na tayo para sa volleyball,” she added.

For Morado, who is still recovering from a left knee injury, was happy to have been given chance to take a shot for a national squad slot.

“I’m sad that I wasn’t able to tryout the last time but moving forward and being able to come here today I’m just really happy,” said the playmaker.

Valdez and Morado were joined by Jaja Santiago, Dindin Santiago-Manabat, Ara Galang, Kim Fajardo, Aby Marano, Sisi Rondina, CJ Rosario, Mylene Paat, Dawn Macandili, Majoy Baron, Kim Kianna Dy, Mel Gohing, Maika Ortiz, Cha Cruz-Behag, Rebecca Rivera and MJ Phillips.

Another tryout is scheduled on Wednesday on the same venue.
