Creamline standout Alyssa Valdez and F2 Logistics star Ara Galang led the 18 players who heeded the call for a tryout for the national women's volleyball team Friday at the Arellano University gym in Legarda.
The former Ateneo de Manila Queen Eagle will try her luck to retain her spot in PHI team while Galang is looking to don the tricolors for the first time.
The duo were among the 34 names invited by the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc. to join the tryout as the country builds up for the 18th Jakarta Asian Games in August and the AVC Asian Cup in Thailand in September.
New head coach Ramil De Jesus, who steered the national team to a bronze medal finish in the 2005 Manila Southeast Asian Games, and his coaching staff facilitated the tryout.
Adamson University's Mylene Paat, F2 Logistics' Cha Cruz-Behag, CJ Rosario and Dindin Santiago-Manabat of Foton and the Fil-American duo of Rebecca Rivera and MJ Phillips of Sta. Lucia Realty were among the players who arrived early in the 5:00 p.m. call time.
