National women’s volleyball team head coach Shaq Delos Santos braces for a deluge of opinions and comments - good or bad - coming from fans after his appointment.
Delos Santos replaced his co-Far Eastern University alum, multi-titled coach Ramil De Jesus just two months after the De La Salle University head coach accepted the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc.’s offer to handle the national squad.
The Petron mentor knew that aside from taking on the huge responsibility of forming a competitive team that will see action in two major international tournaments this year and in the 2019 Manila Southeast Asian Games, he will also need to learn to shrug off the fans’ opinions especially on social media for being an ‘unpopular’ national team coach.
“Normal ‘yan. Pag-handle pa lang ng team ng babae masakit na sa ulo,” he said.
Delos Santos was appointed as the new head coach last week after the sudden resignation of De Jesus, who steered the PHI to its last SEA Games podium finish back in the 2005 edition in Manila when the Filipinas brought home the bronze medal.
The PHI will compete in the Jakarta Palembang Asian Games in August and in the AVC Asia Cup the following month before marching on a long preparation for the Manila SEA Games November next year.
Kumbaga yun ang kailangan kong paghandaan kaysa doon sa mga (basher),” continued Delos Santos, who delivered Petron to the 2018 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix throne last month.
Maganda man o hindi.
LVPI has yet to release an official statement on the real score while De Jesus stepped down.
