BDL to take flight with Foton
Bea De Leon commits to playing alongside Jaja Santiago and Dindin Santiago-Manabat with the Foton Tornadoes.

Foton made a stunning recruitment coup as the Tornadoes tapped the services of Ateneo de Manila University prized middle blocker Bea De Leon.

The Tornadoes beefed up its roster by adding another solid piece at the middle for the franchise’s campaign in the 2018 Philippine Superliga Invitational slated to open on June 23.

De Leon’s inclusion added more firepower and height advantage to a team already bannered by the towering sisters 6-foot-5 Jaja Santiago and 6-foot-2 Dindin Santiago-Manabat.

Foton team owner Rommel Sytin introduced De Leon to reporters Saturday night.

"We already have our twin tower and now, we're introducing our third tower," said Sytin.

"Bea is one of  the best middle blockers in the country today wo we're glad that she had found a home. I'm happy that Bea chose Foton to be her new ballclub," he added.

The Lady Eagles star powered Ateneo to the last of its back-to-back UAAP titles in 2015. BDL was a member of the national team that saw action in the 2015 Singapore Southeast Asian Games.

De Leon, who is yet to decide on her last playing year with Ateneo, is the latest Lady Eagles standout that joined a PSL club after Jho Maraguinot inked a deal with Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors just a week ago.

"A big factor to my decision is the current lineup. I see a very big potential with Foton, especially playing next to the Santiago sisters," said De Leon.  "Jaja is always fun to play with. She's very good and very humble inside and outside of the court."

De Leon, an AB management economics graduate, will also be playing alongside setter Gyzelle Sy and Ivy Perez, libero Jen Reyes, another tall hitter CJ Rosaro, Maika Ortiz, Shaya Adorador, Mina Aganon and Gen Casugod under head coach Rommel Abella with Brian Esquibel and Edjett Mabbayad as deputies.
