F2 Logistics star Abigail Marano landed the first spot in the national women’s volleyball squad after the vocal and passionate middle was named team captain of the yet to be assembled squad.
Marano earned her third tour of duty for the Philippines. Head coach Shaq Delos Santos is set to reveal the rest of the composition of the national pool next week.
The 25-year old hitter donned the tri-colors in the 2015 Singapore Southeast Asian Games, the 2017 AVC Asian Women’s Senior Championship and the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games.
“Sobrang sobrang saya po na pinagkalooban ako ng ganitong oportunidad,” said Marano on Sunday during the PSL’s promotional tour in Baguio.
The national squad will see action in the Jakarta Palembang Asian Games in August, the AVC Asia Cup the following month and in the 2019 Manila SEA Games.
“Sabi ko nga noong kabataan ko pinangarap ko lang maging national team player pero hindi ko inasahan na maging team captain ako,” added the De La Salle University product. “Tinatanggap ko ng buon puso ang responsibilidad na ipinataw sa akin at nagpapasalamat ako sa Diyos na nanghingi ako ng pandesal pero burger ang binigay niya sa akin so doble doble ‘yung blessings.”
Marano is the second DLSU standout to be named as team captain of the national squad after Mika Reyes kast year.
Delos Santos is looking to name at least 20 players in the pool where he will pick the 14 volleybelles that will represent the country in the quadrennial continental meet.
