Petron moved to a share of the lead in Pool A after schooling University of the Philippines-United Auctioneers in a straight-set volleyball clinic, 25-9, 25-16, 25-17, Saturday in Pool A of the 2018 Chooks to Go Philippine Superliga Invitational at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Sisi Rondina powered the Blaze Spikers to their second win in as many games to tie idle F2 Logistics with 12 points anchored on nine spikes, a kill and a block while adding 13 digs and nine excellent receptions.
Bernadeth Pons and Mika Reyes scored 10 markers each for Petron, which rained down 47 attack points in a one-hour, 15-minute demolition.
The Blaze Spikers were on fire the whole match and committed minimal errors to easily subdue the Lady Maroons.
UP dropped its second straight match to remain winless.
Isa Molde was the lone bright spot for the Lady Maroons with 11 points while Marian Buitre and Abilaine Goc combined for 10 markers.
In the second game, Sta. Lucia Realty evened its record to 2-2 after dismantling Cherrylume, 25-21, 25-20, 25-23, and moved closer to clinching a quarterfinals berth in Pool B.
The Lady Realtors survived a scary moment in the third set after the Iron Lady Warriors made a furious rally.
Ahead, 24-21, in the third frame, Cherrylume saved two match points to move within striking distance. But Mariella Gabarda threw the Iron Lady Warriors’ chance for a comeback as she sent her serve straight to the net.
