Europeans, top Asians spice up BVR on Tour Surigao del Sur
Perlas' Dzi Gervacio and Bea Tan seeks a rebound in the Beach Volleyball Republic On Tour Surigao del Sur leg on Saturday at the Gran Ola Resort in Lianga.
A stellar field of international players from Europe and Asia will compete against their Philippine counterparts in the Beach Volleyball Republic On Tour Surigao del Sur leg on Saturday at the Gran Ola Resort in Lianga.

Among those who are participating in the two-day, double-gender event are the fancied Thailand women pairs of Nasuda Janmong and Saranya Laesood, as well as Kijja Khantarak and Sirinuch Kawfong - both veterans of AVC tournaments.

Raja Nazmi Hussin and Mohd Aizzat Zokri, who represented Malaysia in the recently-concluded 18th Asian Games men's beach volleyball competition in Indonesia, are also in the cast in the seventh leg of the year.

The BVR On Tour is returning to Surigao del Sur, where Singapore's Ong Wei Yu and Eliza Chong Hui Hui ruled late last year at the expense of Perlas' Dzi Gervacio and Bea Tan.

This time around, not only the women's division will be played in the two-day event but also the men's.

Mayor Homer U. Pedrozo said that the municipality of Lianga is pulling all the stops for the successful staging of the 33rd leg of the beach volleyball circuit.

"Actually, I am very proud and honor to host again this 2nd BVR on Tour in our humble and beloved town Lianga.  As you can see that i want Lianga to put in the tourism map not just in the Philippines but in the world in general. Hosting this event is one way of presenting our beloved Lianga in a bigger platform which enable us to introduce in different places," said Pedrozo.

"This 2nd BVR on tour which takes place in Sept. 1 and 2 is another milestone for us Liangeños to show our utmost hospitality and the beauty of Lianga to all our visitors. This time it is an international event and both men and women division. I also look forward to hosting this event yearly in promoting sustainability with BVR as emerging sports tourism in our Municipality of Lianga," he added.

Gervacio and Tan are tipped as one of the favorites after placing second to University of Santo Tomas' Sisi Rondina and Babylove Barbon in the Manila leg two weeks ago.

Initial lineup of teams include international duos from Austria and Norway, as well as local teams Ateneo, University of the Philippines, BanKo-Perlas, Philippine Air Force and National University.
