Perlas' Dzi Gervacio will be paired with Bea Tan for the BVR on Tour Gran Ola, Lianga.
Local teams brace for tough competition against a bevy of international players from Europe and Asia who will compete in the Beach Volleyball Republic on Tour Gran Ola, Lianga leg on Saturday.
Perlas' Dzi Gervacio, who will be paired with Bea Tan for the second straight time this year, knows what lies ahead in the event which starts at 8 a.m. at the Gran Ola Resort in Lianga, Surigao del Sur.
"I'm just excited to have international teams come and play. Personally, i see this as something that would teach us Filipino beach volleyball players in levelling up our game," said Gervacio.
"There would always be BVR tournaments -- we aim to have at least once a month and what sets this leg apart from others as well is the new foreign team coming in -- Thailand in the women's. Then, there's Austria, Norway and Malaysia for men's," she added.
The fancied Thailand women's pairs of Nasuda Janmong and Saranya Laesood along with Kijja Khantarak and Sirinuch Kawfong are both veterans of AVC tournaments.
Raja Nazmi Hussin and Mohd Aizzat Zokri, who represented Malaysia in the recently-concluded 18th Asian Games men's beach volleyball competition in Indonesia, are also in the field in the seventh leg of the year.
Now on its 33rd leg overall, the BVR On Tour is returning to Lianga, Surigao del Sur, where Singapore's Ong Wei Yu and Eliza Chong Hui Hui ruled last November at the expense of Gervacio and Tan.
This time around, not only the women's division will be played in the two-day event but also the men's side.
Gervacio and Tan are tipped as one of the favorites after placing second to University of Santo Tomas' Sisi Rondina and Babylove Barbon in the Manila leg two weeks ago.
Initial lineup of teams include international duos from Austria and Norway, as well as local teams Ateneo, University of the Philippines, BanKo-Perlas, Philippine Air Force and National University.
Also, the BanKo Perlas Spikers will also do a workshop in Gran Ola as part of the their BanKo Caraga Caravan.
"One of BVR's goals is to grow the game and having support from Gran Ola and the LGU in this weekends tournament is one big step towards that path," said Gervacio.
