From Bahay ni Kuya to the volleyball court.

Former PBB Housemate Kristine Hammond is living her dream as a volleyball player for the Colegio San Agustin-Binan right after her stint in the Kapamilya network’s last Big Brother installment.

The 18-year old actress and student-athlete will banner CSA-Binan in the inaugural staging of the Philippine Superliga Collegiate Grand Slam slated to unwrap on November 3 at the Ynares Sports Center in Pasig.

“When it comes to volleyball ito na talaga ang largest break ko,” said Hammond, who was one of the housemates in the PBB: Lucky 7 two years ago.

The Filipino-British volleybelle, who is taking up BS Tourism, will be the face of the Binan, Laguna-based squad that will take on five other teams in the tournament that offers an all-expense paid training abroad for the champion.

The opposite hitter, who is juggling stints as a model/actress in ABS-CBN and a student athlete, will be going up against veteran players from University of Sto. Tomas, University of the East, Far Eastern University and De La Salle-Dasmarinas.

“From the south kami so underdogs talaga lalo na hindi naman kami ganoon kalalaki,” said Hammond, who started playing the sport since grade school. “Para sa amin siguro to gain experience na rin for us and exposure.”

Hammond’s passion for volleyball helped her get athletic scholarship, and it was the same love for the sport, her stunning looks and compelling life story, that landed her a spot in the reality show Pinoy Big Brother.

The 5-foot-4 volleybelle became one of the Teen Housemates in PBB’s special edition, which ran for eight months and was a combination of regular, teen and celebrity housemates.

“Sobrang iba (sa Bahay ni Kuya), kasi nasanay nga ako na nasa volleyball, na nasa court talaga,” said Hammond, who was then tagged as Sporty Spice ng Binan. “And yung sa Bahay ni Kuya yun yung stepping stone para makilala ko rin ang sarili ko.”

Hammond was eventually evicted in Day 80. Maymay Entrata was named Big Winner in the edition.

“I stayed for three months doon (sa PBB House). Doon ako nakilala bilang Sporty Spice ng Binan so I already played volleyball talaga,” she added.

After PBB: Lucky Seven, Hammond landed some guesting gigs and minor roles including playing as the young Harriet de Alegra played by Ara Mina in the teleserye Precious Hearts Romances: Araw-Gabi.

Hammond said that though showbiz helps her get extra income to help her family, her studies and volleyball remain her top priorities.

“Ako kasi gusto ko talagang makapagtapos ng pag-aaral and for that to happen kailangan ko talagang mag-volleyball. So ‘yun ang priority ko and ‘yung pag-aartista extra ko na lang to help my family,” she said.

CSA-Binan will take on UST, which will be bannered by Eya Laure, Milena Alessandrini and Maji Mangulabnan, in the opener.

“Alam ko UST malalaki talaga,” said Hammond. “Kami siguro feeling ko underdogs talaga kami doon pagdating sa height kasi medyo maliliit ang mga players namin.”

“Siguro kung tatapangan naman namin and bilog naman ang bola so maraming chances pa rin para manalo,” she added.
