Santiago scores 12 in Ageo Medics opening day win
Jaja Santiago scored 12 points to help the Ageo Medics open the Japan Women's V. Premier League on a high note.

Jaja Santiago immediately made an impact in her debut for the Ageo Medics in the Japan Women’s V. Premier League opener Saturday.  

The towering National University product scored 12 points in the Medic’s come-from-behind 23-25, 25-14, 25-19, 25-16 win over Kurobe.

The 6-foot-5 Santiago started in all four sets had an efficient spiking clip of 10-of-16 while adding two blocks for Ageo, which joined Hisamitsu Springs, NEC Red Rockets and JT Marvelous in the opening day winners’ list.

The Medics will take on PFU Blue Cats on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Dindin Santiago-Manabat rode the bench in the Toray Arrows’ 17-25, 14-25, 22-25 loss to Hisamitsu Springs.

Santiago-Manabat could get her much-awaited debut next Saturday when the Arrows meet the Okayama Seagulls.

In men’s play, Marck Espejo finished with 13 points in another painful loss for the Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adler.

The Weisse Adler fell victim to league-leading Toyota Gosei Trefuerza, 20-25, 22-25, 22-25, to remain winless in three outings.  

Oita Miyoshi will face JTEKT on Sunday.
