Petron's Bernadeth Pons hammers a kill over the block of Roselle Baliton and Jho Maraguinot of Sta. Lucia Realty.
Reigning champion Petron kept its immaculate slate intact as it clobbered Sta. Lucia, 25-18, 27-25, 25-17, in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference Saturday at the Caloocan Sports Complex.
Veteran Aiza Maizo-Pontillas carried the fight for the Blaze Spikers, who remain undefeated in eight matches.
Earlier, University of the East dominated De La Salle-Dasmarinas, 25-11, 26-24, 25-13, while University of the Philippines swept Far Eastern University, 25-20, 25-15, 25-19, in the Collegiate Grand Slam.
Maizo-Pontillas tallied 13 points while Remy Palma had 11 markers for Petron, which is on track to sweep the eliminations.
But Mika Reyes said it’s still a long way to go.
“It’s still anybody’s ballgame. We have to play our best against a winning team or a winless team,” said Reyes, who chalked up five attacks and two blocks.
“We were always told to never underestimate the opponent.”
True enough, Petron suffered some minor turbulence before coasting to the victory.
After easily winning the first two sets, the Lady Realtors sprung back to life and saved five match points to keep their heads above water.
Unfortunately for them, Jeanette Villareal committed a service error that sealed the victory for the Blaze Spikers.
“In the past conferences, these are the times when we would lose our games when we take our opponents lightly,” Reyes said.
“We already learned our lessons the hard way.”
Villareal and Souzan Raslan made 11 points apiece for Sta. Lucia, which absorbed its eighth straight loss.
