Generika-Ayala captured the bronze medal in the PSL All-Filipino Conference.
Generika-Ayala came up with a strong finish as it made short work of Cignal, 25-12, 30-28, 25-13 in the bronze-medal match of the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The quartet of Patty Orendain, Angeli Araneta, Fiola Ceballos and Ria Meneses was at its best as the Lifesavers dominated the HD Spikers to return to the medal podium.
Orendain led the way with game-high 16 points off 11 kills, four blocks and a service ace while Araneta poured 10 spikes and three blocks for 13 hits for the Lifesavers, who last won a medal when the core of De La Salle University bannered them in the 2014 Grand Prix.
Ceballos and Meneses added 10 and nine markers, respectively, for Generika-Ayala that also drew great defensive effort from libero Kath Arado, who had 15 digs and nine excellent receptions.
Generika-Ayala head coach Sherwin Meneses said they were very satisfied with how they fared this conference.
"Of course, we’re happy because we boosted our rankings compared to the previous conferences,” said Meneses, whose wards finished the preliminaries with a 6-4 win-loss record before knocking down Smart in the quarterfinals and pushed F2 Logistics to five sets before bowing out in their semifinal battle.
"I hope that the management would retain this lineup because the best is yet to come for this team.”
After easily winning the opening set, the Lifesavers were pushed to the limits in the second set squandering four set point advantages as Royse Tubino came to the rescue for the HD Spikers, 28-all, before Orendain nailed the two winning hits to take the two set lead.
Generika-Ayala caught fire in the third set with a 22-12 spread and never looked back en route to a bronze-medal finish.
Cignal settled for fourth place with Royse Tubino and Rachel Daquis carrying the cudgels with 15 and 10 points, respectively.
