LVPI is looking at applying an outright bronze medal to teams that will advance to the semifinals of the 30th Southeast Asian Games volleyball competition.
Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc. is considering on applying the same podium format used by Singapore in indoor volleyball when the country hosts the 30th Southeast Asian Games this November.
The national sports association president Peter Cayco said that they will try to request from the Asian Volleyball Confederation the possibility of giving the losing semifinalists a pair of bronze medals in both the men’s and women’s divisions.
Four years ago, Singapore applied the same podium format where Final Four teams are secured of at least a bronze medal finish. The Philippines, which made their return to the biennial meet after a decade, failed to advance in the semifinals in both divisions.
“Subukan natin. Ire-request natin ang Singapore format para dalawa ang bronze. Ganoon sa Singapore, ‘di na naglaban yung no. 3 and no. 4, bronze na pareho,” said Cayco. “So apat na medalya ang lumabalas, gold, silver, bronze, bronze.”
The LVPI head explained that in order to change the format they will have to request it from the continental sports body.
“Kasi ang alam ko dyan ang magri-request eh yung host federation, aaprubahan ng AVC tapos ibibigay nila… in this case sa PHISGOC (Philippine SEA Gams Organizing Committee). Sila ang magsasabi sa PHISGOC,” said Cayco.
LVPI has predicted a podium finish for the men’s and women’s national team in the competition set to begin on November 28 in a yet to be determined venue.
