Cignal forged a best-of-three semifinals showdown with unbeaten Petron after eliminating United Volleyball Club.
Imports Erica Wilson and Ana Artemeva wreaked havoc on offense as Cignal booked a Final Four ticket by booting out United Volleyball Club, 25-22, 18-25, 25-21, 25-20, Tuesday night in the 2019 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix quarterfinals at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Wilson scored 25 points off 21 attacks, two aces and two kill blocks while Artemeva got 18 markers built on 13 spikes and five kill blocks for the HD Spikers, who will take on unbeaten defending champion Petron in the best-of-three semifinals.
Locals Mylene Paat and Rachel Anne Daquis finished with nine and six points, respectively, and delivered Cignal’s last two points of the match.
Fil-American Kalei Mau and reinforcement Yaasmeen Bedart-Ghani had 20 points each while Thai import Sutadta Chuewulim, who just replaced Tai Manu-Olevao, ended her one-game stint with 14 markers.
Meanwhile, Generika-Ayala hung tough down the stretch to eke out a thrilling 21-25, 25-22, 25-22, 26-24 win over PLDT Home Fibr to force a sudden death for a semis slot.
Import Kseniya Kocyigit delivered the crucial blows for the Lifesavers.
The prized Azerbaijani delivered the quick attack that forced a deuce before skipper Angeli Araneta nailed back-to-back aces to seal the victory.
Thai import Kanjana Kuthaisong led the charge with 17 points while Araneta put up 10 attacks and four aces for a 14-hit effort for Generika-Ayala, which finished the double-round classification phase at the sixth spot.
Kocyigit chipped in 13 markers while Fiola Ceballos had 11 points.
"Since our two classification matches against PLDT ended up in five sets, our mindset is just to double the effort and luckily we got the breaks of the game,” said Generika-Ayala coach Sherwin Meneses, whose wards would face the winner between F2 Logistics and Foton in the best-of-three semifinals.
The Cargo Movers and the Tornadoes will dispute the semis berth on Thursday.
Import Kendra Dahlke had 23 points while her partner Grace Lazard scored 15 points for the Power Hitters, who also drew impressive numbers from Aiko Urdas and Gretchel Soltones, but surrendered to the strong service game of the Lifesavers down the stretch.
