Nationals take solo second
Rebisco-Philippines moved up to solo second spot after a four-set win over IEM.

Rebisco-Philippines banked on its solid net defense to fend off Instituto Estetico Manila, 25-27, 25-22, 25-22, 26-24, in the 2019 Spikers’ Turf Reinforced Conference at the Paco Arena in Manila on Tuesday.

Despite playing without top guns Marck Espejo and Bryan Bagunas, the Nationals picked up their fifth win in six game to occupy the solo second spot behind unbeaten Cignal.

Ranran Abdilla led the charge with 17 points while Kim Malabunga and Rex Intal contributed 14 and 12 markers, respectively.

Tied at 24 in the fourth, Joven Camaganakan committed a service error to put the Nationals at match point before Josh Umandal scored a kill block to seal the win.

“Medyo kalat kalat ‘yung game, [pero] ‘yung blocking namin, medyo nag-work nung kailangang kailangan namin ng puntos, ‘yung blocking ni Rex [Intal] saka Kim [Malabunga], ‘yun ang importante doon,” said Rebisco assistant coach Dong Dela Cruz.

The Nationals wreaked havoc at the net with 17 kill blocks to frustrate the attackers of IEM, which dropped to 1-5 slate.

Camaganakan finished with 20 points for the Phoenix Volley Masters.

Meanwhile, Sta. Elena beat Easytrip-Raimol, 28-26, 25-21, 21-25, 25-21, for a 3-3 card.

Ed Camposano fired a personal conference-high 25 points built on 20 attacks, four aces, and a block while Almendras added 22 markers for the Ball Hammers.

Easytrip, who remained winless in seven tries, was led by Mardy Galang with 19 points.

In the first game, the Animo Green Spikers averted disaster from the upset-seeking Philippine Coast Guard Dolphins in five sets, 27-29, 25-21, 25-22, 18-25, 15-8.

Vince Abrot led Animo with 19 points while Roniey Adviento and Cris Dumago had 16 and 15, respectively.
