Seldom-used and struggling for a share of playing time in a stacked Creamline squad, Celine Domingo sees the 2019 Thailand Open Sealect Tuna Championships as a chance to showcase what she can do on the court.
The UAAP Season 80 Best Blocker will skipper the very young national women’s under-23 volleyball team in the prestigious invitational tourney scheduled on July 4 to 10.
“Sobrang malaki [para sa career ko] kasi first time ko to e,” said Domingo on Thursday after the squad’s training session at the Arellano University gym in Taft Avenue.
Domingo has seen limited minutes in her first stint with the defending champion Cool Smashers in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Reinforced Conference.
The Far Eastern University standout was named team captain of the squad with Isa Molde, who was the skipper of the U-23 pool, unavailable due to her stint with Motolite in the PVL.
With the majority of the 14-woman roster playing in the international scene for the first time, Domingo said that Reyes is not putting too much pressure on the squad. They are looking to gain experience in the tournament that showcases national and club teams from Asia.
“Sabi ni coach Kungfu hindi naman niya kami ipe-pressure na magkaroon ng target kasi puro mga bata kami,” she said. “Halos lahat sa amin first time maglaro international.
Included in the roster are University of Sto. Tomas players Mafe Galanza, Kecelyn Galdones, Ysa Jimenez, setter Maji Mangulabnan, Rachelle Roldan, Imee Hernandez, and Janna Torres.
Rossie Rosier and Jewel Encarnacion of University of the Philippines, FEU’s Ivanna Agudo and Lyann De Guzman, Justine Jazareno of De La Salle University and UAAP Season 81 high school Most Valuable Player Angel Canino of De La Salle-Zobel.
The team will fly to Thailand on July 3.
