Sta. Elena booked the last Final Four ticket.
Sta. Elena secured the last seat in the 2019 Spikers’ Turf Reinforced Conference semifinals after hammering down Philippine Army, 31-29, 25-17, 25-23, Thursday at the Paco Arena.
Edward Camposano fired 14 points built on 11 attacks, two aces, and a block while Nico Almendras and James Natividad chipped in nine and eight points, respectively, as the Ball Hammers set a date with top seed Cignal in the Final Four.
“Siyempre kailangan [talaga] namin manalo para makapasok sa Final Four. Sinasanay namin talaga na kahit puro bata nga sila, nandun naman yung sistema eh. Kailangan lang i-feed samin sa kanila yung mga gagawin” said Sta. Elena assistant coach Raymond Franza.
Skipper PJ Rojas scored a game-high 18 points for Army, who was booted out of the semifinals race with a 5-5 win-loss card.
Earlier in the day, the Phoenix Volley Masters swept Volleyball Never Stops Volleyball Club (VNS VC), 25-23, 27-25, 27-25.
Razzel Palisoc scored 12 points while Enciso chipped in eight markers for IEM, which improved to 3-7 record.
Jeremy Merat finished with 11 points while Philip Bagalay added nine for VNS, which slid to 2-8 card.
In the other game, Easytrip-Raimol edged out the Philippine Coast Guard Dolphins, 25-23, 22-25, 14-25, 25-18, 15-11, to barge in the win column after 10 tries.
Team captain Red Christensen spearheaded the attack with 19 points while Mardy Galang and Dave Plettado added 17 and 11 markers respectively for Easytrip.
Coast Guard, winless in 10 outings, got 25 points from Esmail Kasim while Eddiemar Kasim added 10 markers.
