Bryan Bagunas scored 22 points to lead the Nationals to a four-set win over Fine Chef Phitsanulok.
Bryan Bagunas bounced back from a jittery start as the hitter showed his scoring prowess with a 22-point outing in the Philippine men’s volleyball team’s, 17-25, 25-12, 25-22, 25-20, victory over Fine Chef Phitsanulok Saturday in the 2019 Thailand Open Sealect Tuna Volleyball Championships at the V Sommai Gymnasium in Sisaket.
The National University product hammered 18 kills with two kill blocks and a pair of aces as the Nationals barged in the win column after a sorry four-set loss to Thai Air Force on Friday.
“Syempre masaya kasi ayun nga nanalo kami and nakabawi,” Bagunas told ABS-CBN Sports.
The Nationals recovered from a set down as they got their rhythm going with a convincing second frame win. The Filipinos sustained their momentum to finish off Fine Chef Phitsanulok to keep their semis hopes alive.
Marck Espejo added 15 points off 12 attacks and three kill blocks while Kim Malabunga wreaked havoc at the net with six kill blocks in his 11-marker outing for the Nationals. Francis Saura had seven markers while skipper John Vic De Guzman, Ranran Abdilla and Mark Alfafara combined for eight markers in complete team effort for the Filipinos.
“Tulong-tulong lang. Basta ang importante buo kaming naglalaro sa loob,” said De Guzman.
Royal Thai Air Force must win their match against Fine Chef on July 7 to assure the Nationals a seat in the semifinals.
Kittithad Nuwaddee paced Fine Chef with 26 points.
The top two teams from each bracket will advance to the semifinals on July 8.
