Former Ateneo standout Tony Koyfman is set to suit up for Hapoel Kfar-Saba Volleyball Club in the Confédération Européenne de Volleyball (CEV) Challenge Cup.

“It’s exhilarating and it’s always been a dream of mine, after Ateneo I didn’t think of playing pro because I wanted to work especially after graduating,” Koyfman expressed.

The 25-year-old spiker out of Queens, New York is currently working as an orientation assistant at the Columbia Law School.

Koyfman, who played the opposite position both for the Blue Eagles and the Volleyball Never Stops Volleyball Club Griffins, will be going back to his old position as a middle blocker to tend to his new team’s needs.

“But once I had the call I figured I couldn’t let the opportunity go to waste and they needed a middle which was my original position,” shared Koyfman.

For him, his stint in the Philippines paved the way for this great opportunity and he can’t thank his former coaches enough for helping him to reach his full potential.

“My time in the Philippines was beyond crucial kasi I learned more here within the game under [Oliver] Almadro and [Timmy] Sto. Tomas. If I didn’t play for Ateneo I highly doubt I’d be in this position for sure,” Koyfman bared.

“Without sa Pilipinas I wouldn’t get this far talaga. And I’m still beyond thankful and grateful for it.”

After averaging 15.48 points for VNS VC in the 2019 Spikers’ Turf Reinforced Conference, Koyfman left the country last June 27 due to some family concerns.

Koyfman will be flying from New York to Israel on August 29 to prepare with Kfar-Saba.
