Jonah Sabete and PetroGazz put up a gallant stand but still came up short against China Manmade Fiber Corporation (Taipei 2), 26-24, 25-17, 21-25, 14-25, 15-17, Monday in the 2019 Taichung Bank Asian Women’s Volleyball Tournamet in Taiwan.
Sabete led all scorers with 25 points coming off 18 attacks, six kill blocks and an ace but all her efforts went down the drain as the Angels squandered a two-set lead to drop to 0-2 win-loss slate.
Jovielyn Prado got 13 markers, all from attacks, while Cherry Nunag, who tweaked an ankle in their opening day assignment, and Paneng Mercado had 11 and nine markers for PetroGazz, who opened their campaign on Saturday with a 17-25, 14-25, 20-25 defeat at the hands of Top Seed-Taiwan.
CMFC-Taiwan rebounded from a four-set loss to Thailand’s U-23 team.
Chang Li Wen led CMFC-Taiwan with 19 points, Lo Yi Ching had 17 while Matea Magdic scored 16 markers.
PetroGazz will see action against a Japanese club team on Tuesday.
